The Fowey Harbour Heritage Society was created from the very successful Heritage Lottery Funded Fowey Harbour Heritage Project. The Project, initiated by Fowey Town Forum, was awarded a grant to help towards the research, and the training of our ‘Harbour Guides’, to help visitors and residents discover more about the area. This Society is its successor.
Our accredited and knowledgeable Harbour Guides lead scheduled weekly walks around Fowey and Polruan during the season, but can also be booked to lead private walks of your choice. One favourite is the Hall Walk, around the estuary edge from Bodinnick via Pont Creek, to Polruan, or the other way round ! Please use the contact form to enquire.
Between September and May we run a programme of talks, film shows and events at different locations around the harbour. These cover matters of both local and a wider interest. Our most recent programme included talks on the Civil War around Fowey, the revival of orchards along the Fowey River, the Secret Army, traditional boat building in Mevagissey, sources of local history and two films by the celebrated local photographer and filmmaker, Jim Matthews.
